Polprazol jest lekiem, wskazanym do przyjmowania krótkotrwałego w przypadku nadkwasoty, refluksu, zgagi oraz stanów zapalnych błony śluzowej żołądka. Czasami nazywany jest lekiem osłonowym, ponieważ stosowany jest wraz z niesteroidowymi lekami przeciwzapalnymi, aby zminimalizować ryzyko wrzodów żołądka i podrażnienia śluzówki.

Lek "osłonowy" przy antybiotyku to probiotyk, zawierający kultury bakterii, przywracając naturalną florę bakteryjną jelit, która zostaje zaburzona przy przyjmowaniu antybiotyku. Probiotyk zapobiega również biegunkom poantybiotykową.
