The observation is correct - indeed, No-spa forte (80mg 20 tabl.) and No-spa Max (80mg 20 tabl.) have the same composition and potency, with No-spa forte having the availability category "Rp", i.e. on prescription, and No-spa Max - "OTC", i.e. without a prescription. In general, prescription medicinal products contain substances that pose a certain risk even when used correctly, in a higher dose, all parenteral products are also on prescription (i.e. all injections, among others - and this is also the category of availability of e.g. No-spa ampoules). The described situation may actually look strange from the patient's point of view, but it should be remembered that it is not the pharmacist who decides what category of availability a given drug has. Refusal to issue a No-spa forte product does not result from the bad will or "whim" of the pharmacist, but from the provisions of law that every pharmacy must absolutely comply with. For dispensing the drug "Rp" without a prescription, the issuing person is threatened with professional liability. If, after taking such a drug, there would be any health complications, the responsibility also falls on the pharmacist who issued the drug. This pharmaceutical prescription may be issued in the event of a sudden threat to the health or life of the patient. In this case, the pharmacist may dispense without a doctor's prescription a medicinal product reserved for prescription in the smallest package. In the case of No-spa Forte, in my opinion, issuing a pharmaceutical prescription would not be justified, precisely because the patient can purchase No-spa Max without any obstacles. Possible financial considerations (i.e. a lower price of the preparation "on prescription") are not a sufficient justification for issuing a pharmaceutical prescription.
