For a very long time, I had a problem with itching. I've been to two different proctologists, each of them gave different advice, sometimes things that were mutually exclusive - one told you to wash your anus only with regular soap, the other said never to use soap to wash your anus. They recommended the use of suppositories or ointments. It seemed to help, but not entirely, and after discontinuing the use, the problem returned. I tried all sorts of methods, from washing my anus only with super gentle soap to using various specifics, but nothing really helped enough to make me feel like the problem was eliminated. Years later, I've found a way that really works, so I search forums for the problem of itching to help others.
Here's my advice: after each bowel movement, wash your anus with Protex soap (only this one!). After washing, wipe dry with paper and blow dry. Then apply a small amount of ProRectal gel. That's all! In my case, following these recommendations made the itching disappear, the anus has a nice color and everything is fine.
