Nie, farmaceuta nie jest lekarzem, więc nie ma kompetencji w diagnozowaniu chorób i nie może wypisywać pacjentom recept na leki, które nigdy wcześniej nie były u niego stosowane, chyba że istnieje zagrożenie życia lub zdrowia pacjenta.

Farmaceuta może zapisać pacjentowi receptę farmaceutyczną na leki będące kontynuacją terapii, która jest aktualnie stosowana, natomiast nie rozpoznaje chorób i nie wypisuje recept na ich leczenie, gdyż należy to do kompetencji lekarza, nie farmaceuty.
