Leki z grupy IPP (inhibitorów pompy protonowej) zmniejszają wydzielanie kwasu żołądkowego. Stosuje się je w leczeniu chorób żołądka i jelit wywołanych przez kwas solny. Zazwyczaj zaleca się stosowanie leków 1 raz na dobę (chyba, że lekarz zaleci inaczej), a działanie leków utrzymuje się przez ok. 24 h.

Preparaty typu Gaviscon są to leki zobojętniające nadmiar kwasu solnego w żołądku. Wspomagają regenerację śluzówki żołądka i przełyku. Łagodzą zgagę, odbijanie i niestrawność. Stosowanie preparatów jest doraźne.
