Enzym gamma-glutamylotranspeptydaza (GGPT) jest składnikiem komórkowego mechanizmu obrony antyoksydacyjnej w organizmie. Jego zwiększone stężenie może być objawem schorzeń wątroby lub wskazywać na cholestazę - zespół czynników prowadzących do zaburzeń w czynnościach wydzielniczych wątroby.

Jeśli podwyższone stężenie GGPT wynika z przewlekłego zapalenia wątroby czy marskości wątroby, to niewykluczone, że Hepa-Merz może okazać się pomocny.
