Amantadyna występuje w postaci różnych soli - chlorowodorku i siarczanu.
PK-Merz Amantadine Sulphate zawiera siarczan amantadyny.
Choć AUC dla obu soli jest takie samo (jest to jeden z parametrów charakteryzujących dostępność biologiczną, który obrazuje całkowitą ilość leku wchłoniętego do organizmu), to siarczan jest gorzej rozpuszczalny i osiąga niższe stężenie maksymalne w surowicy.
Nie ma także wskazań do terapii wirusa grypy, co jest widoczne w przypadku chlorowodorku, więc do leczenia COVID-19 używany jest chlorowodorek amantadyny.
