Tak, stosowanie środków antykoncepcyjnych (niekoniecznie tabletek) jest konieczne podczas terapii lekiem Izotek, bowiem ten lek może ciężko uszkodzić nienarodzone dziecko - ma działanie teratogenne. Może on powodować ciężkie uszkodzenia mózgu, twarzy, ucha, oczu, serca i niektórych gruczołów (grasicy i przytarczyc) płodu. Zwiększa również prawdopodobieństwo poronienia.
