Ozempic is a preparation containing semaglutide. Ozempic is used alone for adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus or in combination with other glycaemic-lowering medicinal products. The starting dose of Ozempic is 0.25 mg once a week. After 4 weeks, the dose should be increased to 0.5 mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks of taking the 0.5 mg dose once a week, the dose may be increased to 1 mg once a week to further improve glycemic control. To date, the summary of product characteristics for Ozempic has presented the results of studies confirming the safety and efficacy of the drug when used for a period of 30 weeks: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki Ozempic may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating, constipation, dyspepsia, gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease. This does not mean that every patient will experience them. About whether to be afraid of side effects, we wrote in the article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/czy-bac-sie-dzialan-niepozadanych-lekow If side effects occur, it is recommended to consult a doctor. It is also possible to use the teleadvice offered m.in. by the Gdziepolek.pl portal: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja I also encourage you to report the occurrence of side effects of the drug Ozempic. Reporting adverse reactions increases control over commercially available drugs and enables the development of optimal recommended pharmacotherapy regimens. We wrote more about how and why to report side effects in the article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-i-dlaczego-zglaszac-dzialania-niepozadane

In response to the great interest of patients, a non-reimbursed drug Ozempic from parallel imports appeared in pharmacies. The availability of the drug in pharmacies can be checked here: Ozempic 0.5 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275329 Ozempic 1 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275351

There is no single right answer to this question. The fact is that metformin can be used together with Ozempic and there is no need to stop it. It depends on the results and needs of the patient. There is no single indicated dose with a combination of drugs. To sum up, when it comes to the dosage of Ozempic, the dose of 0.25 mg is not a maintenance dose and is only used to adapt the body. In contrast, the dose of 1 mg per week is the maximum dose. If Ozempic is added to existing metformin treatment, the existing doses of metformin are possibly those that are modified - but also no need to do so, they may remain unchanged. In your case, the dose of metformin is not the maximum dose, rather quite standard and it all depends on why it was introduced. To sum up - there is no "top-down" need to discontinue metformin or change the dosage. It all depends on your results, well-being, needs.
