Both types of Trittico are formulations with a modified (non-immediate) release of a medicinal substance, but there are significant differences between them and they cannot be used interchangeably. They differ primarily in the way (rhythm) of releasing trazodone (active ingredient) from the inside of the tablet. The CR formula is constructed in such a way that the drug reaches its maximum concentration after about 4 hours. There is a "peak" of the highest concentration, which may be beneficial for insomnia therapy or as an adjunct treatment for depression with sleep difficulties. Trittico CR comes in doses of 75 mg and 150 mg, and the tablet is divided into three parts, which allows for even smaller intermediate doses. The XR formula causes the drug to reach its maximum concentration later (after about 7 hours) and in general the whole process of transferring the active ingredient to the body takes place more evenly. The drug is available in higher doses: 150 mg and 300 mg, and the tablet itself is divided into two parts. Higher doses are sometimes used as the only drug in the treatment of depression, including depression with anxiety. It is also worth mentioning that Trittico CR is a reimbursed drug, and Trittico XR is not covered by the discount.
