Should I stop taking Ozempic before surgery?
9.99 zł

Hey, do I have to stop taking Ozempic before the operation under anesthesia?
Does semaglutide affect anesthesia? I don't have a date set yet - can I use the injections until the date of the surgery is known? Grażyna Płońska

You should stop taking the drug a week before the surgery.

"According to the ASA (American Society of Anesthesiology) interim guidelines, people taking GLP-1 medications on a daily basis should stop treatment on the day of surgery. For people who take the medicine weekly, ASA recommends stopping treatment one week before the planned surgery. If the patient has nausea on the day of the operation, the doctor should postpone the procedure."

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.
