Drinking alcohol while taking Zotral is not recommended because alcohol may increase some of the side effects of sertraline, such as drowsiness, dizziness, impaired concentration and impaired coordination. In addition, it can weaken the effectiveness of treatment (deterioration of mood, anxiety attacks or recurrence of symptoms) and burden the liver.

However, occasional consumption of a small amount of alcohol (e.g. a glass of wine) may not lead to serious complications, as long as there are no additional risk factors (e.g. cirrhosis, diabetes, heart problems, sleep disorders).
