Yes, Tegretol may affect liver function, especially in patients with a history of liver disease and the elderly. Liver function tests should be performed prior to initiation of Tegretol treatment and regularly thereafter during treatment. Elevation of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGTP) following induction of liver enzymes is a very common adverse reaction, usually of no clinical significance
