Magnetic resonance imaging with contrast and menstruation
Good morning
Tomorrow I am supposed to have an MRI with contrast. Today I got my period.
Can an examination and contrast be administered during my period?
Unfortunately, during my period I often feel nauseous, dizzy and have stomach pain - so is it advisable?
The MRI is expected to last 30-35 minutes.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with contrast can be performed during menstrual bleeding, as there are no contraindications directly related to the period. However, if you experience severe menstrual discomfort, such as nausea, dizziness, and abdominal pain, it is worth bearing in mind that MRI requires you to lie still for quite a long time, which can exacerbate these discomforts and cause discomfort.
It is worth consulting the doctor performing the test to discuss your symptoms and ask if there is a possibility of rescheduling the test to another date when you feel better. If the examination is urgent, the doctor may also suggest remedies (e.g. antispasmodics or antiemetics) to help relieve discomfort during the examination.
