Telmisartan (Telmix) and valsartan (Valsacor) are substances belonging to the same group of drugs - angiotensin II receptor antagonists. The choice of the preparation depends on the individual characteristics of the patient and his tolerance to the drug.
What makes these preparations different is, m.in, the route of elimination from the body: telmisartan is eliminated mainly by the liver, valsartan by the kidneys. This may be a possible argument influencing the choice of drug in a patient with kidney failure. However, the Valsacor dossier indicates that no dose adjustment of valsartan is necessary in patients with renal insufficiency. Both medicines can be used in people with COPD.
