Can you treat various medications for depression as sleeping pills? E.g. Depratal, Biotexin, Cital, Velaxin? I've run out of Dobroson and I'm wondering if I can use it for sleep. I take Ketrel in the amount of 600 mg., but I guess it's too much if I want to sleep? Thank you in advance for your reply, greetings

Some antidepressants can be used as sleeping pills, but not all are suitable for this. Such treatment should always be supervised by a physician who will assess the benefit-risk balance for the individual patient.

- Depratal (duloxetine) - usually has a stimulant effect, so it is not commonly used as a sleep aid. It can even worsen sleep problems, especially at the beginning of therapy.

- Bioxetin (fluoxetine) - can cause insomnia, especially if taken in the evening. It is not recommended as a hypnotic.

- Cital (citalopram) - can also have a stimulant effect, although it can cause fatigue in some patients. It is not the first choice drug for the treatment of insomnia.

- Velaxin (venlafaxine) - depending on the dose, it may have a stimulant or sedative effect. At lower doses, it may help with sleep, but it is not typically used as a sleep aid.

- Ketrel (quetiapine) - in lower doses, it is often used as a sleep aid due to its sedative effect. However, in higher doses (like 600 mg), it acts more as a mood stabilizer and antipsychotic than as a sleep aid.

If the main goal of your treatment is to improve sleep, it is worth consulting your doctor about the possibility of reducing the dose of Ketrel to achieve a better sedation effect. If this is not possible, your doctor may consider prescribing you another medication with a more pronounced hypnotic effect, such as mirtazapine or trazodone.

User questions and answers that provide feedback about products are not verified for the purchase or use of the product. Companies often order anonymous comments to form positive opinions about their products, or negative ones about competitors. Therefore, be guided by the information in the pharmacists' responses in the first place.
