Good morning, I was prescribed to take the drug rinvoq 15mg to treat atopic dermatitis, reading the leaflet there is a skin cancer as a side effect that affects one in 10 people, I have smoked in the past even if in moderate quantities, can this affect the appearance of cancers or other diseases? Thanks in advance.

Rinvoq (upadacitinib) may increase the risk of cancers, including skin cancer, especially in patients with risk factors such as smoking.

Although smoking in the past may affect the overall risk of cancer, there is no conclusive evidence that moderate smoking increases the risk of skin cancer in the context of Rinvoq use.

It is important to regularly monitor any skin changes and report any worrying symptoms to your doctor. I also encourage you to discuss any concerns you may have about your treatment and potential side effects with your doctor.

If you have any further doubts, it is worth consulting your attending physician. If you are unable to consult your doctor, you can use the teleconsultation here:
