Both Pentasa 1g/100ml rectal suspension, Asamax 500 in the form of enteric tablets and Asamax 500 rectal suppositories contain the same active substance - mesalazine.
The therapeutic effect of mesalazine most likely depends on the local contact of the active substance with the diseased site of the intestinal mucosa.
Due to the form of administration, these preparations work in different parts of the intestine - Pentasa in the descending colon, Asamax suppositories in the colon, and Asamax tablets in the final section of the small intestine and the initial section of the large intestine. Therefore, the effectiveness of treatment with preparations depends on which part of the intestine the lesions are located.
