Could Lamitrin have caused skin lesions diagnosed as PsA?
9.99 zł

I have a question, for 2 months I have been struggling with such changes on my face, I have been to 2 dermatologists, probably PsA was diagnosed, I have been taking Lamitrin 200mg for mood stabilization, for over a year I have been gradually entering the dose of 200mg and I am taking this dose all the time, I consulted with a psychiatrist, he said that it is not possible after such a long time and when the dose has not been changed yet, Is it possible that these changes could be made with this drug?

Seborrheic dermatitis is most often caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. One of the main triggers of this disease is an excessive inflammatory reaction as a result of the accumulation of Malassezia yeast. The occurrence of the disease is also influenced by hormone levels, nutritional deficiencies, or neurogenic factors.

PsA can also be affected by disease factors, including neurological and psychiatric diseases such as Parkinson's disease, tardive dyskinesia, depression, epilepsy, facial nerve palsy, or spinal cord injuries. In addition, the occurrence of the disease can be influenced by factors such as a family tendency to seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis, oily skin, weakened immunity, as well as chronic stress.

As for the lamotrigine you use, skin reactions are among the side effects that may occur after taking the drug. They usually occur within the first eight weeks after starting treatment.

The risk of skin lesions appears to be clearly associated with high initial doses of lamotrigine and inconsistent dose escalation and concomitant use of valproate.

Skin rashes are a very common side effect of the drug and may affect more than one in ten patients taking lamotrigine.

Therefore, it cannot be clearly stated whether the use of Lamitrin was the direct cause of your skin lesions, because the etiology of PsA is complex.
