A test performed 10 days after intercourse should show a reliable result. If fertilization occurred, the concentration of chorionic gonadotropin would exceed 5mlU/ml. In the first weeks of pregnancy, the value of beta HCG increases rapidly, so a result of 0.2 can be interpreted as no pregnancy. The test can be repeated if menstruation is delayed.
