Can Fertilman Babystart tablets be split in half?

Hello, can these pills (Babystart Fertilman - 1649 mg) be split in half? Unfortunately, they are quite large and my husband has trouble swallowing.
Best regards

I understand your doubts about taking Babystart Fertilman.

If the packaging or leaflet of the medicine says that the medicine must not be chewed, it means that the tablet is probably designed to ensure a controlled release of the medicine in the body. Chewing or grinding such a tablet may:

1. Change the rate at which the drug is released: This can lead to the drug being released too quickly, which can be dangerous or cause side effects to increase.

2. Harm the stomach: Some medications have special coatings that protect the stomach from the irritating effects of the drug, or protect the drug from the acidic environment of the stomach by allowing it to reach the intestines where it is absorbed.

3. Reduce efficacy: Destroying the tablet can affect its absorption, which can make the medication less effective.

The cut-off line on the tablet does not always mean that the tablet can be separated. Sometimes it is there to make it easier to swallow the pill rather than to divide the dose.

Since the manufacturer recommends taking the preparation after eating, such a recommendation is intended to reduce the risk of stomach irritation or improve the absorption of the drug.

Thank you very much for your answer. On the packaging it says that it cannot be chewed, while on the tablet there is a dividing line, it also says that it should be taken after eating - so will crushing it with a knife and taking it with food not have a negative effect on the stomach, but on weaker absorption?

If the husband is not able to swallow the pills whole, then yes - they can be divided or crushed. However, please make sure that you do not lose the fragments of the tablet during crushing, but take the entire dose.

However, some specialists are of the opinion that the crushed preparation may not be absorbed as it should. The pill is designed to reach the stomach, and sometimes further to the intestines, where the substance to be absorbed is released. By dividing the tablets, we lead to a situation where some of the active substance settles for some time in the throat and esophagus. It is also exposed to hydrochloric acid from the stomach and digestive enzymes for longer. It follows that such a procedure may affect the absorption and effective action of the preparation.

If the tablets are too large to swallow, it is worth consulting your pharmacist or doctor to find an alternative solution, such as another form of supplement (e.g. capsules, powder) or another way of administration, e.g.
