Will Silimarol reduce the effectiveness of Yaz contraception?
9.99 zł

If, on the day of taking the first tablet from the new Yaz blister (Wednesday 3 July), I took one tablet of Sylimarol 70 mg 1.5 hours apart, was the effectiveness of the tablets not reduced? Do I need to use additional protection during the next intercourse?

It has not been shown that there are clinically significant interactions between milk thistle (a component of Silimarol) and contraceptive pills. In my opinion, a single intake of Silymarol at a dose of 70 mg with an interval of 1.5 hours will not significantly affect the effect and effectiveness of contraception. There is no need to worry, and the use of additional security is not required.

There is only a theoretical probability that taking milk thistle on a daily basis may have a small effect on the metabolism of the estrogen component of the pills and thus their contraceptive effectiveness. This has not been confirmed in studies.
