Although bruises usually disappear within about two weeks, in some cases they can last longer, up to a month. In the situation after surgery, the healing process may be prolonged. The surgery and the presence of wires may have caused more damage to the blood vessels, leading to longer bruising.

Altacet ointment can help reduce swelling and inflammation, but it is not the only solution. Pharmacy ointments and gels can also be used to speed up the healing of bruises. Bruises should be lubricated with products containing substances that affect:

* sealing blood vessels (arnica, horse chestnut, heparin), e.g.
Arnica ointment: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/46656/masc-arnikowa-masc/apteki

Aescin: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/2614/aescin-zel/apteki

Lioton: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/43890/lioton-1000-zel/apteki

* soothing and accelerating regeneration (calendula), e.g.: Arcalen: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/6875/arcalen-masc/apteki

* reducing swelling (aluminium acetate), e.g.: Altacet: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/3917/altacet-zel/apteki

* anti-inflammatory and cooling (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug combined with menthol), e.g.: Dip Rilif: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/23829/dip-rilif-zel/apteki

Gently massaging the bruise area can improve circulation and speed up the absorption of the hematoma. After removing the immobilization, it is important to conduct rehabilitation to improve the range of motion of the elbow joint.

Since the bruise persists as early as 5 weeks after the wires have been removed, it is advisable to consult your attending physician or pediatric orthopedist. A long-lasting bruise may require additional evaluation. If you are unable to consult your doctor, you can use the teleconsultation here:

It is important to remember that each case is individual and the healing time may vary. If the bruise persists or new symptoms appear, it is essential to consult a doctor.
