Gabapentin is used in the treatment of neuropathic pain, including polyneuropathy, but the mechanism of its action in this condition is not fully understood (it is probably based on its effect on neurotransmission). Usually, gabapentin is well tolerated, but like any other medicine, it can cause side effects m.in drowsiness, dizziness, swelling, joint pain, nervousness, increased appetite and tiredness.
