How common are the side effects of the drug Montelukast?

My 11-year-old son got Montelukast paediatric 5mg from the doctor and I'm a little afraid to give him after reading the side effects, maybe someone can share the effectiveness? My son still grunts in the evenings before bedtime, he has rhinitis and therefore I would like to know if this drug will help and how often side effects occur ?

Montelukast, like any other medicine, may or may not cause side effects. Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict in advance whether and what side effects will occur in a specific person. It is worth bearing in mind that they usually do not occur often (less often than in 1 in 10 patients using the drug) and are most often mild, occurring only at the beginning of therapy and disappearing after stopping the use of the drug. More severe or more severe side effects occur even less frequently.
If your doctor has decided to prescribe this medicine, it is likely that the benefits of its use outweigh the risk of side effects.
