Both preparations contain estradiol and a second ingredient (different in the two drugs) which is a derivative of progesterone (the female sex hormone). Due to the similarity of composition and action, both drugs are used as HRT and have similar contraindications (mainly due to the action of estrogen), as well as side effects. The characteristics of medicinal products indicate that weight gain is observed more often during treatment with Activelle than with Juvinelle, but this is not a rule and not every person using the drug will experience this type of side effects. The decision to implement any drug should be made by the doctor. Before starting HRT, a number of tests should be performed, because hormonal preparations have quite a number of contraindications for use.
