Can treatment of Helicobacter Pylori with antibiotics lead to zoonotic skin mycosis?
9.99 zł

Hello! Does 10 days of treatment against heligobacter, duomox, metronidazole and helicid increase the risk of skin mycosis? E.g. ringworm. My question is because I work in a veterinary clinic and additionally I have a cat at home.

Sorry for the oversight :) Antibiotic therapy still disrupts the skin microbiome, so there is a risk of skin mycosis, including athlete's foot or mycosis of the mucous membranes, because the skin is "sterilized" of bacteria naturally living on it as a result of the drugs used.

After antibiotic therapy, you can get mycosis from animals. Fungal infections transmitted from animals to humans are called dermatophyte zoonoses.

As I wrote earlier - to reduce the risk of infection, it is worth taking several preventive measures, including regular washing and thorough drying of your feet and wearing breathable footwear and clothing. Additionally, taking probiotics can help maintain microbial balance in the body and restore it after antibiotic therapy.

Thank you for your reply. There was an error in the question, it was not about athlete's foot, but about zoonotic mycosis of the skin.

Yes, antibiotic therapy (including the use of Duomox or Metronidazole) can increase the risk of athlete's foot (and other fungal infections). Antibiotics are antibacterial, which means they eliminate bacteria, including beneficial ones that naturally occur on the skin and help maintain microbial balance. When these beneficial bacteria are destroyed, fungi such as dermatophytes and yeasts can grow more easily, leading to fungal infections.

To reduce the risk, it is worth taking several preventive measures, including washing and drying your feet regularly and wearing breathable shoes.

Additionally, taking probiotics can help maintain microbial balance in the body and restore it after antibiotic therapy.
