Tranexamic acid (Exacyl) is a remedy that has been gaining popularity in dermatology for some time, especially in the treatment of hyperpigmentation, including age spots. Although tranexamic acid is originally known as an anti-hemorrhagic drug, blocking the action of plasmin and preventing the breakdown of blood clots, its use in dermatology is based on its ability to inhibit melanocyte activity, which reduces melanin production.
