I understand that you have questions about the use of medications for anxiety disorders and the effect of these medications on QTc prolongation.

QT prolongation is a potentially dangerous side effect of some medications, including some antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications. The QT interval is an electrocardiogram (ECG) parameter that reflects the time it takes for heart muscle cells to depolarize and repolarize. Its prolongation can lead to a life-threatening arrhythmia called torsades de pointes (TdP).

Daparox (paroxetine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) medication used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, and other conditions. Although not a common side effect, paroxetine may prolong the QT interval in some cases.

In your situation, the doctor recommended discontinuation of Daparox due to prolongation of the QT interval in the ECG. Zoloft (sertraline) is another SSRI medication that your doctor has told you may be a safer option for you because it has a lower risk of QT prolongation. However, the doctor cautioned that even Zoloft may slightly prolong QT, so this parameter should be monitored.

Changing medication often takes time to adjust the dose and achieve the full therapeutic effect. If anxiety symptoms, mood disorders and stress persist, it is worth consulting a doctor for possible modification of treatment or adding complementary therapy.

If this situation raises doubts for you, it is always worth consulting a doctor who can provide more personalized advice. If you are not able to make a face-to-face visit, I attach a link to the online teleconsultation:

Please remember that treatment of difficulties in the area of psychological functioning only with pharmacological agents carries the risk of intensification of symptoms after discontinuation of medication and or shortly thereafter. The proper treatment is psychotherapy, which deals with the causes and is designed to lead the patient to healthy functioning, also without the use of drugs. If you have not started psychotherapy (apart from taking medication), I encourage you to make an appointment for a consultation with an appropriate specialist. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja/z-psychologiem
