Good morning, my mother has been taking jardiance for 10 days and we have noticed a drop in heart rate from 80 beats/minute or just over 40. Is this effect normal?

Empagliflozin (the active substance in Jardiance), as an inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 (SGLT2), primarily acts to lower blood glucose levels by increasing the excretion of glucose in the urine. However, empagliflozin is not known to have a direct effect on heart rate. If your mother has experienced such an effect, I would suggest contacting your doctor and discussing a possible change in treatment.
