Culturing the physiological flora of the upper respiratory tract in a vaginal culture is not a valid result. This indicates contamination of the sample or an error in the collection or analysis of the material.

Physiological flora (natural, saprophytic) are microorganisms that are normally found in the upper respiratory tract of the human being, such as the nose, throat or trachea. In contrast, there is a different physiological flora in the vagina that is characteristic of this area of the body.

A normal vaginal microbiological test should show the presence of physiological flora characteristic of this area, and not flora from the upper respiratory tract.

If the vaginal culture shows the presence of microorganisms that are not typical for this site, a doctor should be consulted for proper interpretation of the result and possible treatment.
