Diseases of the blood and hematopoietic system (haematological)
Due to the low ferritin result during the blood test, the paediatrician prescribed Ferrum syrup for a 10-month-old baby at a dosage of 4.5ml per day in two doses (2.5ml + 2ml). Can this drug be given to such a young child? The leaflet reads that "Infants up to 1 year of age: the syrup should not be used due to the low doses to be given in this age group." Please let me know. Thank you

Follow the specialist's instructions.
According to current knowledge and recommendations, the treatment of Fe deficiency should be based on a diet with foods with a high content and bioavailability of Fe and oral supplementation at a dose of 3-6 mg (up to 8 mg) of iron/kg body weight, administered in divided doses or in 1 daily dose, preferably in the evening.
In the case of significant deficiencies, a child weighing about 8-10 kg can take up to 80 mg of iron per day. In the case of your child, your doctor has recommended a dose of 45 mg per day, so the maximum daily dose will not be exceeded.
