Milk thistle may have properties that inhibit the action of the isoenzyme CYP 3A4 responsible for the metabolism of many drugs. Corosaver contains two active substances, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe.
Rosuvastatin is metabolised primarily by CYP2C9 and to a lesser extent by CYP 3A4.
According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, there were no clinically relevant interactions with rosuvastatin and CYP 3A4 inhibitors.
Milk thistle may exacerbate the side effects of statins, those that are mainly metabolised by the CYP 3A4 isoenzyme, e.g. atorvastatin.
