If I didn't take the first contraceptive pill during a typical "full" bleeding, am I protected from the moment I take it?

Good morning
Yesterday before 11 p.m. my mucus was bloody (brownish, a sign that I was about to get my period), so I took the first birth control pill from the blister. It's my period, so if I didn't take the pill during such a typical and "full" bleeding, does the pill still protect me from the moment I took it? (I took the pill at 11:00 p.m.)

If spotting marks the start of menstruation and it is the first day of a new cycle - then the first tablet can be taken during spotting. Do not wait until your period is over and the bleeding is intense. Contraceptive protection is maintained.
