Hi! I have been taking Lamitrin since spring 2018 at a dose of 150 mg. In 2021 there was an attack, but it was caused by lack of sleep and fatigue, the dose remained the same. In January 2023, after a two-year remission, there was a sudden attack. There were no obvious provocateurs, why could this happen?

An epileptic seizure, especially if it occurred after a two-year remission, can be surprising to the patient. There are several possible explanations for a sudden attack despite taking lamotrigine:
Underdose: Prolonged remission may be misleading as to the appropriate dose of the drug. Changes in life circumstances, stress or other factors may affect the effectiveness of the treatment, requiring dose adjustment.
Interactions with other medicines: New medicines or changes in other medicines you are taking may affect the levels of lamotrigine in your blood.
Disease development: Epileptic diseases can change over time, which can affect the effectiveness of medications.
Improper medication intake: Recurrent attacks may be associated with irregular medication use.
In any case, it is important to consult your doctor to assess the situation, identify the causes of the attack and adjust the treatment. In the event of a sudden attack, it is always recommended to consult a doctor immediately. If you are unable to get to your doctor, I am attaching a link to the online teleconsultation:
