Studies in the literature suggest that the combination of berberine (the active ingredient in InsuResin) and metformin (the active ingredient in Metformax) is safe and effective in lowering blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, these substances can interact with each other. Berberine can increase the amount of metformin in the body, thereby increasing its effects and side effects. This interaction is thought to be most likely when berberine is taken about 2 hours before metformin.

Due to the insufficient number of studies and their quality, possible berberine supplementation during metformin treatment is recommended to be consulted with the attending physician.
