Good morning. Does the substance Sumatriptan help with pains other than migraine? If you always start to have a slight headache, but after taking triptans it goes away, does it mean that it is a migraine? Usually, when I don't take it on time, the pain gets worse. A woman of the 60s.

Sumatriptan is an agonist of receptors found in cranial blood vessels. Dilation of these vessels is thought to be the primary mechanism of migraine in humans. Sumatriptan causes blood vessels to constrict, thereby interrupting a migraine attack. Sumatriptan also inhibits the action of the trigeminal nerve, which also explains its anti-migraine effect.
Sumatriptan helps with headache caused by vasodilation. A headache caused by vasodilation is not always classified as a migraine, so it is not possible to determine whether the fact that sumatriptan helps with every headache is a migraine. Migraine is diagnosed by a doctor based on more information about the patient's health.
Sumatriptan should be taken as soon as possible during the onset of migraine headache. Its effectiveness is the same no matter at which stage of a migraine attack it is taken.
