Good morning, two weeks ago I started using birth control patches. This is my first hormonal contraception ever. I applied the first patch on the day my period started. Usually it lasted 7 days for me, now I see that it is prolonged - currently I am bleeding on the 13th day and after the amount of blood it does not look like it will be the end. What could be the reason for this? Does the fact that my current patch has peeled off slightly have something to do with this?

Cycle disorders are a very common side effect at the beginning of hormonal contraception. For example, you may notice prolonged/irregular bleeding or mid-cycle spotting, which should go away on its own after about 3-4 months. A slightly peeled patch should be replaced with a new one - the contraceptive effectiveness of Evra may be impaired and if the situation has lasted longer than 24 hours, additional methods of protection (condoms) should be used for another week.
