I've read that it's a good idea to use 1000ppm fluoride toothpaste once a day and fluoride-free toothpaste for children (from the first tooth). Is it possible to use a toothpaste with 500ppm fluoride twice a day instead, or will it have a different effect?

According to the guidelines of the Polish Society of Paediatric Dentistry, from 6 to 36 months of age, it is recommended to use a trace amount of fluoride toothpaste at a dose of 1000 ppm. Brush your teeth 2 times a day. Parents must have a high level of
health awareness and follow the recommended amount of toothpaste.
If parents are concerned, if non-compliance is suspected, and if the fluoride content in drinking water is > 1 mg/L, a toothpaste with less than 1000 ppm F is recommended.
Toothpastes with such a fluoride content are, for example, Elmex Toothpaste for children 0-6 years old, Curasept Biosmalto Baby-Kid.
