Can a woman who takes tenofovir plan to become pregnant?
My daughter has been taking tenofovir for several years, can she plan to get pregnant, does this drug have any effect on the fetus?

Available data do not indicate that tenofovir is harmful to the foetus or
Newborn. However, as with any medication, a pregnant patient or a patient planning to become pregnant should discuss the subject of therapy with her doctor - in this case, for example, with an infectious disease doctor. Before trying for a baby, it is also a good idea to have a preconception visit to a gynecologist.
Tenofovir is intended for the treatment of HIV infection and for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Both viruses can be transmitted through sexual contact – so depending on the exact reason why your daughter is taking tenofovir, you may also want to consider whether there are any steps you need to take to protect your partner.
