Good morning, I'm 22 years old and I have an enlarged 3rd tonsil, it's to be removed in 3 months, so far I'm taking decongestants, the tonsil causes clogging of the eustubes and fluid accumulation, can I do sports until the surgery- gym or is it a contraindication? What does the convalescence and the procedure itself look like?

Usually, after tonsillectomy and drains, exudative inflammation of the ears and excess fluid from the ears should gradually disappear over a few weeks.
However, each case may vary, so I recommend that you consult your doctor if you are experiencing worrying symptoms.

Adenoidectomy, i.e. removal of the pharyngeal tonsil (the so-called third tonsil), is a short and relatively simple procedure. It is performed through the oral cavity. With the help of a special knife, the pharyngeal tonsil is removed. Possible bleeding is then stopped. After the bleeding has stopped and the nasopharyngeal cavity has been checked, the anaesthetist wakes up the patient. The duration of the procedure is on average 30-45 minutes.
-after the procedure, the patient returns to good shape very quickly and after a few hours does not feel any discomfort anymore
-care should be taken to prevent the development of new infections for a period of time
-In the first 2 days after the operation, it is recommended to eat cold meals (ice cream in particular) and avoid hot ones.
Taking decongestants is necessary before the procedure. You may feel discomfort in the form of plugging your ears, but this is not a contraindication to sports.
