How long should I protect myself if I use Duomox and Orlifique?

Good morning. He takes orlificique birth control pills. Today I was prescribed duomox 1g for 13 days. I am currently on the 3rd day of a 7 day break. For how long should I protect myself and should I take a break after finishing the blister that I will use together with duomox?

Yes, you can take a normal break. Contraceptive protection will be provided 7 days after the end of antibiotic use. The spotting that has occurred may be the result of using both contraception and antibiotics at the same time. In some cases, antibiotics can affect the effectiveness of hormonal contraception, which can result in spotting.

Thank you. Despite the fact that in the first week I will use an antibiotic, after finishing the package I can normally take a break without the risk of losing effectiveness? Today is the first day of the new package, I was taking antibiotics during the break and just today and suddenly I got spotting with live red blood... What could be the reason for this?

If you take the Orlifique contraceptive pill and the antibiotic Duomox (amoxicillin), you may be at risk of reducing the effectiveness of contraception. Amoxicillin belongs to the group of beta-lactam antibiotics that can affect the conversion of hormones contained in birth control pills to their active forms, which limits their absorption into the blood. Therefore, it is always important to inform the doctor about taking birth control pills when another medicine is prescribed, so that the doctor can adjust the treatment plan and possibly suggest additional protective measures. As for the period of time in which you should protect yourself, it is recommended to use additional methods of contraception (eg condom) throughout the intake of the antibiotic and for 7 days after its completion. As for the interval between blisters of Orlificique tablets, there is such a need in this case. Skipping a break does not affect the effectiveness of contraception. Regular skipping of the break can lead to excessive stimulation of the endometrium by hormones contained in active pills, which leads to its peeling and mid-cyclic spots - hence such a frequent practice is not recommended.
