Hello. Due to the fact that he often gets sick. (I have already had three infections in a month), I wanted to do a blood Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgG test. Can I do this test while I am sick, or wait until I recover?

You can perform the test while you are sick, but it is best to do it in this case simultaneously with the determination of antibodies of early classes: IgA and IgM. Moreover, a single determination of antibodies in the IgG class against Mycoplasma pneumoniae has relatively little diagnostic value, because these antibodies indicate a previous infection, but on the basis of a single determination it is not possible to determine unequivocally when the infection occurred. They appear in the blood on average after 6-8 weeks after infection and can persist in the blood for up to several years. In case of reinfection, their level increases sharply. For this reason, it is recommended to perform antibody determination twice, at an interval of 2-4 weeks - based on the growth dynamics, it can then be determined whether the presence of antibodies is related to a past infection or reinfection.
