Hello. She uses Elin birth control pills. I had two very watery stools with abdominal pain one hour before the pill and the other two hours after taking the tablet. What should I do? Is it better to take a tablet from another blister and consider it missed, or just use a 7-day mechanical contraception? I would add that this is my 3rd tablet from this blister, and 7 days before this tablet I did not have intercourse.

The effectiveness of hormonal contraception may be impaired if diarrhoea occurs within 3-4 hours of taking the tablet. There is a risk that the increased intestinal transit could reduce the absorption of the active substances contained in the tablet. In this case, it is recommended to take another tablet as soon as possible. The effectiveness of contraception is then maintained and there is no need for an additional method of contraception. If the "extra" dose is not taken, a mechanical method of contraception (usually a condom) should be used for 7 consecutive days.
