Decades ago, there were studies checking the effect of tianeptine (the active ingredient in Coaxil) on cortisol levels. However, it was not possible to confirm the results of these studies and clearly determine whether this drug has an effect on the level of cortisol in the human body. Tianeptine contained in Coaxil is an antidepressant that, m.in, stimulates the electrical activity of pyramidal cells in the hippocampus, increases serotonin reuptake in neurons in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus.
