Can Kelp be safely supplemented during pregnancy? I'm at 31tc from the very beginning I take kelp because I supplement all the vitamins separately. Today the lady in the pharmacy said that I absolutely should not take it while pregnant and I started to worry a lot. Can it harm the baby?

Kelp supplementation during pregnancy should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor, because the excess iodine that is present in the kelp can lead to serious disorders in the development of the fetus. Kelp is a source of iodine, which is an important trace element necessary for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland and the growth of the body. However, in pregnancy, excess iodine can negatively affect fetal brain development and lead to serious neurological disorders, including mental retardation. In the case of iodine deficiency in a pregnant woman, it is better to use safer (better tested in the context of pregnancy) preparations in the form of drugs.
