What should I do if I do not know how long the foil on the Yasmin tablet has been damaged?

Hello. She uses Yasmin birth control pills. Taking the tablet recently I noticed on the blister, that the foil covering the tablet was slightly broken, unfortunately I do not know how long. Can such a break of the foil reduce the effectiveness of this one tablet? I would add that the tablets have always been kept in a dry place at room temperature in a cardboard package available with tablets.

If the film of Yasmin is damaged for an unknown time, I encourage you to skip this tablet (m.in. due to the possibility of moisture) and take the tablet from the spare blister in its place. If you do not have a spare blister, take another active tablet. This will change the day the bleeding occurs and the day you start the new pack of medicine. Moisture or other damage to the tablet (with a damaged film) may affect its effectiveness. More about the impact of blister damage, for a short time, on the contraceptive effectiveness of drugs, we wrote in the reviews: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/opinie-i-pytania/62355/vibin-czy-naderwanie-folii-w-tabletkach-vibin-wplywa-na-jej-skutecznosc https://www.gdziepolek.pl/opinie-i-pytania/90925/dzien-dobry-podczas-brania-tabletki-antykoncepcyjnej-przerwalam-f I enclose a link to check the availability of Yasmin and make a reservation at the selected pharmacy: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/84756/yasmin-tabletki-powlekane/apteki You can read more about how to use contraception correctly in our article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-prawidlowo-stosowac-antykoncepcje

If now, as you suggest, I will use additional protection throughout the new blister, will the next package be fully effective tablets?

In this case, there is no minimum time needed for full contraceptive efficacy to return. I encourage you to use an additional method of contraception until the end of the currently used packaging. If you have intercourse after taking a probably defective tablet, I encourage you to perform one of the pregnancy tests, available in an online or stationary pharmacy. Choosing the offer of an online pharmacy allows you to compare prices and order a test with home delivery or personal collection at the pharmacy. Ultra-sensitive pregnancy tests include, m.in.: Pink Test: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/97388/domowe-laboratorium-pink-test-ciazowy-strumieniowy-super-czuly-test/apteki Nord test: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/54428/nordtest-test-ciazowy-plytkowy-test/apteki You can read more about which pregnancy test to choose in the article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/test-ciazowy-jaki-wybrac-i-kiedy-zrobic

And if I no longer get the right shortening of the break, will additional security for the next 7 days help?

Karolina (Anonymous, 37.30.109.) 15 months ago

And if this pill works in some way, then such a shorter break will not disturb anything?

In this case, as I mentioned below, please shorten the break time by these two days (the penultimate and last tablet). In practice, it will look like this: there is only a 5-day break. Including the last two days, we have a 7-day break.

I understand, only that I have already finished the whole package (21 tablets including the 1, which had a slightly damaged package) and I am in the course of a 7-day break so I have no way not to take a break and start a new package. What to do in this case? How much can you shorten the break as much as possible?

If the tablet has been taken, I encourage you to act as if it was not there (i.e. as if the tablet was skipped). According to the leaflet, you can proceed in 2 ways. Either shorten the break time (by the penultimate and last tablet) or start a new package right away. If you miss a tablet from the last week, you will not be expected to use an additional method of contraception and to keep the previous method of taking the tablets.

Unfortunately, it was the penultimate tablet from the package and I had no way to follow your advice. In this case, will additional protection for 7 days eliminate the risk of possible ineffectiveness of the tablet?
