Good morning, I learned that toxic shock syndrome can occur if you wear a tampon for too long. I decided to use sanitary pads overnight during my period. Can this syndrome also occur when using them? What period of time can I wear a sanitary pad that is safe?

Sanitary pads should be changed approximately every 3-4 hours during the first days of menstruation and then every 6 hours. Usually, using one sanitary pad is enough for the whole night. Tampons should also be changed every 3-4 hours, and the tampon should not stay in the vagina for more than 8 hours. This threatens, as you wrote, with a toxic shock. TSS (toxic shock syndrome) can also occur in women who do not use tampons, but using them is one of the risk factors. If you develop fever and muscle aches during menstruation, tell your doctor.
