Should I stop taking Ozempic before surgery?

Hello. Should ozempic be discontinued before planned surgery under general anaesthesia? The drug is prescribed for weight reduction. I will be grateful for your reply. Best regards!

slowing down gastric emptying. Patients should not take it a week before the planned procedure. patients taking GLP-1 receptor agonists, despite previous fasting, did not have an empty gastric tract during surgery, which posed a risk of aspiration and pneumonia.

Whether discontinuation of the medicinal product before planned surgery under general anaesthesia is decided by the doctor qualifying for surgery. He should be informed about all medicines and dietary supplements used. This should be done immediately, as the semaglutide in Ozempic may persist for 5 weeks after the last administration.
