Acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis, although most often caused by alcohol abuse, are two different disease entities, differing in symptoms and treatment. In the treatment of chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic enzymes and herbal preparations in the form of teas or tablets are used. Acute pancreatitis may require surgical treatment.
